Qualifications
If you are a graduating high school senior or entering college for the first time you’ll be considered for direct admission to the School of Education based on the following criteria:
- You’ve been admitted to IU Bloomington, and you indicated a major in the School of Education
- You have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPAs will be converted to a 4.0 scale.
- We'll take into account your overall academic performance, with no specific minimum test score requirements. If you choose to apply to IU without ACT/SAT scores under our test-optional guidelines, don't worry! We'll review other aspects of your application, such as your academic coursework, the quality of your application essay(s), and your additional activities and achievements. Review test optional guidelines.
Note: It is important to have a completed application submitted by the November 1 deadline for priority direct admission consideration.
Case-by-case reviews
All applications that do not receive direct admission will receive a second review. We may consider offering direct admission to students in these three situations:
- Students who apply to IU Bloomington after November 1 but meet the other criteria for direct admission
- Students who are very close to meeting the GPA requirement
- Students who apply to IU Bloomington by November 1 indicating a non-education major and then switch to a School of Education major
