Teacher Education Program Application Guidelines

Overview

The application for the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is not complicated and should not take more than a few minutes to complete. However, please do take the time to make your selections carefully and correctly. Most delays in the processing of applications are the result of students selecting the wrong information on the form. Please review the following information, and then log in to TEIS and apply.


When to apply

Apply by March 1, 2023 for admission for Fall 2023. We will begin accepting applications on January 16, 2023.

Apply by October 1, 2023 for admission for Spring 2024. We will begin accepting applications on August 28, 2023.


Begin First Block

This refers to the semester in which you will begin your first Block. The next application cycle is for the March 1, 2023 deadline, so you should select Fall 2023 if you are applying now to begin your first Block in Fall Term 2023.


School Name

All undergraduates in the School of Education should select School of Education. Please do not select Graduate School – Education; that category is reserved for graduate students. If you are earning a degree such as Music Education, please select your School (Jacobs School of Music).


License Area and Education Program

This guideline addresses two separate sections of the application: License Area and Education Program. Please take a minute to review your options before making your selection.

If you are majoring in...

  • Elementary Education
    • Select License Area: Elementary: Primary and Intermediate
    • Select Education Program: Elementary: Theory Into Practice K-6
    • Select a Content Field OR a License Addition OR both a Content Field and a License Addition
  • Early Childhood Education
    • Select License Area: Early Childhood and Elementary: Primary
    • Select Education Program: Early Childhood Education 
  • Teaching All Learners (TAL)
    • Select License Area: Exceptional Needs Education and Elementary
    • Select Education Program: Teaching All Learners: Elementary 

For Secondary Education, please note that most Secondary Education majors are pursuing an Anchor program.  Do not select “Secondary Community of Teachers (CoT) Undergraduate” unless you been accepted into the Community of Teachers program. 

If you are majoring in… 

  • Secondary Education
    • Select License Area: Middle School, Junior High or High School
    • Select Education Program: Secondary Education Undergraduate Anchor
      This allows you to select your Content Field (e.g., Social Studies, Language Arts/English, Mathematics) 
  • Secondary Education Community of Teachers
    • Select License Area: Middle School, Junior High or High School
    • Select Education Program: Secondary Community of Teachers (CoT) Undergraduate
      This allows you to select your Content Field (e.g., Social Studies, Language Arts/English, Mathematics)
  • Secondary Education Special Education (Exceptional Needs)
    • Select License Area: Middle School, Junior High or High School.
    • Select Education Program: Exceptional Needs Secondary (CoT) Undergraduate
      This allows you to select your Content Field (Language Arts/English, Mathematics, or Science) 
  • All-Grades (K-12)
    • Select License Area: All School Settings (Music, Visual Arts, World Languages)
      This allows you to select your Education Program (e.g., Music Education, Visual Arts Undergraduate, World Languages Undergraduate). Please do not select a graduate option, and only select Community of Teachers if you have been accepted into the Community of Teachers program.
