Canvas Cohort Groups
Approximately one academic year before you are likely to student teach, you will be added to a Canvas course that includes all of the information you’ll need to apply for and get ready for student teaching. **Special Note for Spring 18 Student Teachers: A Canvas course is being created for you that contains only the Pre-Student Teaching Information component. You can expect to receive an invitation to join by November 6.**
Within that course, you will be provided with the following information:
Your Junior Year: Student Teaching Application Information
It is ideal to apply to student teach one full academic year prior to your intended student teaching semester. For example, if you are planning to student teach in Fall 2018 or Spring of 2019, you can apply to student teach as early as the Fall 2017 semester.
The first section of the Canvas course provides valuable information regarding the application itself, requirements for different school districts, and what happens after you apply. You should expect it to become available in early October, around the same time that you are invited to join the Canvas course.
If you do not receive an invitation to join the Canvas course by the first week of October, and you intend to student teach during the next academic year, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and ask to be added to this course.
Your Senior Year: Pre-Student Teaching Information
Within the same Canvas course listed above, we will provide information to help you understand and prepare for your student teaching. This section of the course will become available during the last part of the Spring semester. In this section, we will provide information on the following:
- Expectations for student teachers (teacher candidates)
- Support you will receive from supervisors
- Collaborative teaching
- Assessments, meetings
- What you should do prior to beginning your placement
- Getting ready for the edTPA
