Costs and Scholarships

Global Gateway for Teachers cannot provide exact cost information since costs will vary throughout the year and from one individual to the next. Please note that all estimates are listed in U.S. Dollars. Keep in mind that foreign currency exchange rates will affect the value of the U.S. Dollar and hence your budget.

Teaching Responsibilities

English is taught as a subject in primary schools, and it is the medium of instruction in secondary schools. Thus, elementary student teachers will teach English, and secondary student teachers will likely teach in their own content areas. Further, it may be possible to fulfill practicum requirements in Tanzania for the ESL/ENL license addition.

Other Considerations

Proficiency in Swahili is not required, but participants are encouraged to learn basic words and phrases before they leave for their placement. Participation is not limited to students pursuing the ESL/ENL license addition.
