We are a diverse community of investigators and practitioners working collectively to offer a critical interdisciplinary and international framework for understanding juvenile delinquency and prevention through the exchange of knowledge and dissemination of scholarship with the goal of improving existing practices and to effect long term change through local and international policies.
Our mission is to facilitate interdisciplinary and international research on juvenile delinquency and prevention; bring awareness to the diverse life challenges facing youth across multiple countries; serve as an information clearing house; offer training and prevention strategies to practitioners, families, scholars, and policy makers; improve the education and treatment of youth in their communities across the globe.
Juvenile delinquency is a major social problem in many countries. This special series of Intervention in School and Clinic focuses on the intersection of youth with disabilities and the laws in the United States, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Norway, which aim to ensure the provision of educational opportunities responsive to the needs of youth with disabilities who engage in behaviors that bring them into contact with law enforcement.
The number of incarcerated girls is increasing, but the study of the factors leading girls to engage in delinquency is an area of research which has been neglected. This multinational special issue focuses on incarcerated girls noting that many of them have a history of trauma and abuse, many suffer from anxiety and depression, and few are identified or treated for their mental health needs.
