Learn how to join

Student teaching placements are made in the town of Skudeneshavn located on the island of Karmøy (along Norway’s southwestern coast). Placements in Norway are extremely limited. Students typically live in homestay accommodations.

Costs and Scholarships

Global Gateway for Teachers cannot provide exact cost information since costs will vary throughout the year and from one individual to the next. Please note that all estimates are listed in U.S. Dollars. Keep in mind that foreign currency exchange rates will affect the value of the U.S. Dollar and hence your budget.

Teaching Responsibilities

Most student teachers will teach conversational and written English, but they may also teach specific subjects using English as the medium of instruction. Further, it may be possible to fulfill practicum requirements in Norway for the ESL /ENL license addition.

Other Considerations

Proficiency in Norwegian is not required, but participants are encouraged to learn the basic words and phrases before they leave for their placement. Participation is not limited to students pursuing ESL/ENL certification.
