Placements in China are currently on hold until further notice.
Student teaching placements are made in the city of Zibo in Shandong Province. Zibo is located 200 miles south of Beijing. Students typically live in either homestay accommodations or small apartments arranged by the school.

Global Gateway for Teachers cannot provide exact cost information since costs will vary throughout the year and from one individual to the next. Please note that all estimates are listed in U.S. Dollars. Keep in mind that foreign currency exchange rates will affect the value of the U.S. Dollar and hence your budget.
There are a number of scholarships available for IU Bloomington students who participate in Global Gateway, some up to $4000.

Students will teach conversational and written English to a variety of grade levels. Further, it may be possible to fulfill practicum requirements in China for the ESL/ENL license addition.
Proficiency in Chinese is not required, but participants are encouraged to learn basic words and phrases before they leave for their placement. Participation is not limited to students pursuing the ESL/ENL license addition.
