Student teaching placements are made in Ávila, an hour and a half by train northwest of Madrid. Student teachers live in a dormitory with other students and professionals.

Costs and Scholarships
Global Gateway for Teachers cannot provide exact cost information since costs will vary throughout the year and from one individual to the next. Please note that all estimates are listed in U.S. Dollars. Keep in mind that foreign currency exchange rates will affect the value of the U.S. Dollar and hence your budget.
There are a number of scholarships available for IU Bloomington students who participate in Global Gateway, some up to $4000.
- Tuition and fees: Most IU Bloomington students will cover this cost with their regular tuition, though some exceptions may apply.
- Registration Fee: $350 (non-refundable)

Teaching Responsibilities
Students will teach conversational and written English to a variety of grade levels, but it may be possible for them to teach specific subjects using English as the medium of instruction. Further, it may be possible to fulfill practicum requirements in Spain for the ESL/ENL license addition.
Other Considerations
Proficiency in Spanish is required. Participation is not limited to students pursuing ESL/ENL certification.
