School of Education welcomes 255 freshmen

Incoming students gather together for Donuts with the Dean during Welcome Week.

As a new school year begins, the IU School of Education is excited for the journey ahead for our new and returning students.

This year, we welcome 255 freshmen to our school, a 21% increase in applicants over last year. These students arrive at IU with a median GPA of 3.85.

Returning students are preparing to student teach in 128 schools across 28 counties in Indiana.  Over 80 students are participating in Global Gateway for Teachers, fulfilling their pre-service teaching requirements in 22 countries, Chicago, and the Navajo Nation. This year marks the first time we’re offering a new international immersion experience for students pursuing our non-teaching major, Counseling and Student Services (CASS), in New Zealand. Students also have the opportunity for new overseas study experiences in Ghana, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, and Germany.

We also welcome international students and visiting scholars from 52 countries and have new or renewed partnerships with several universities around the world, including Universiti Indonesia in Jakarta, the National Institute of Development Administration in Bangkok, Universität Hamburg in Germany, Zhejiang University in China, and Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador.
