Wong recognized for advocacy work with distinguished service award

Joel Wong has been awarded the IU Asian Culture Center’s Distinguished Service Award. Wong, a professor in Counseling and Educational Psychology, was recognized for support, advocacy, and engagement with the Asian Culture Center. The center aims to promote awareness and understanding of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander cultures, history, and issues at Indiana University and in the Bloomington community by providing institutional resources, educational support, and community outreach activities to students, faculty, and staff.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled, and I want to thank Melanie Castillo-Cullather for nominating me for this award,” Wong said. “I hope this award draws attention to the work of IU Asian American students, staff, and faculty at IU who have worked tirelessly to confront anti-Asian racism and to advocate for Asian Americans at IU and beyond.”
