About Me

Elizabeth Boling is Professor of Instructional Systems Technology, Indiana University, Bloomington, who has previously served as Department Chair, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Executive Associate Dean in the School of Education. She holds her B.F.A. (Texas Tech University) and M.F.A. (Indiana University) in Printmaking. She worked as interface designer and production manager for educational software development under contract to Macmillan Publishing (1983 - 1987), then as Graphics and Animation Manager for Instructional Products at Apple, Inc., Cupertino, from 1988-92. Her research interests include visual design for information and instruction, and design theory, pedagogy and practice. She is past editor-in-chief of TechTrends, founding editor and current editor-in-chief of International Journal of Designs for Learning. She is lead editor of the Routledge titles Studio Teaching in Higher Education: Selected Design Cases, and Historical Design Cases: ID Knowledge in Context and Practice. Additionally, she was co-editor of the Handbook of Research in Educational Communications and Technology, 5th Edition.
