Jang receives prestigious IU fellowship

Graduate student Sojung Jang has received the John H. Edwards Fellowship, one of the most prestigious fellowships awarded at Indiana University.

Jang, a fourth year doctoral student studying counseling psychology, said she was in disbelief after hearing she received the scholarship. With the funding from the fellowship, Jang will be able to serve more people in need of mental health at Veterans Affairs and the Plainfield Correctional Facility, including patients with serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, while also focusing on her internship application and dissertation writing.

In her current work, Jang is currently focusing on a new topic called intimate racism, racial discrimination and microaggression experienced by one’s own partner, explaining, “I hope to disseminate awareness and knowledge about intimate racism so that people can become more aware about its presence and diverse impacts it may have on their lives. I hope this topic can be discussed more freely in therapy and research.”
