The National Academies has appointed Dean Robert Berry as co-chair of its new Mathematical Sciences Education Board.
“I look forward to working with many of my colleagues from around the country to improve mathematics education through our work on this board,” Berry said.
Berry is also a professor of mathematics education and a past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). His research focuses on equity issues in mathematics education, standards-based mathematics teaching practices, and the use of technology.
The Mathematical Sciences Education Board will be responsible for programs and activities that provide guidance at the national level that brings to bear high-level and balanced expertise from the mathematical sciences research and education communities and their stakeholders on a broad range of issues related to mathematical education.
