Education honor society returns to IU School of Education

Students from Kappa Delta Pi at their recent initiation

After a small hiatus, Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society, has returned to the IU School of Education.

KDP aims to inspire and equip future and practicing educators to thrive. Membership gives students access to a channel of peers and resources for their future careers, such as sample lessons, professional development opportunities, and a forum of fellow future and practicing teachers to chat with.

Last summer, School of Education students Jordan Pyles and Mary Higdon started to work to bring  KDP back together. After Pyles met with faculty advisor Lori Burch, both students got their executive team together to discuss how to share the organization had formed again.

“During our meetings, we talk a lot about what the club members want to see and what professional development workshops we can bring to the School of Education,” Higdon explained. “A few weeks ago, we had a panel of practicing teachers where we talked openly about teacher contracts and other ‘behind the scenes’ aspects of teaching. We are planning to do more professional development and teacher panels in the future.”

Current SoE students interested in joining can either visit KDP’s website and search for the Rho Nu chapter at IU or contact the chapter directly.

The chapter is also hosting a fundraiser at Raising Cane’s restaurant on Kirkwood next Wednesday, April 9, from 4-8 p.m., with a special group dinner at 7 p.m. Mention Kappa Delta Pi for the group to receive part of the proceeds from the sale.
