Career Connections leads to student career success before and after graduation

Secondary education student Reanne Grooms meets with Career Connections Director Taylor Levell during a recent appointment

Whether it’s help building an effective resume or learning about what jobs are available after graduation, the Career Connections office provides an invaluable resource to IU School of Education students.

Career Connections, housed in Suite 1000 in the Wright building, provides coaching for the entire time a student is in the School of Education, whether that’s by helping to explore what teaching and other education career pathways are available to offering workshops throughout the year that cover topics like classroom management, communication support, and trauma-informed classrooms: all tools that Career Connections Director Taylor Levell hopes will help students thrive in their future jobs. Career Connections also works with SoE Cares, a new initiative that provides wellness-based programming and self-care based coursework so teachers experience less burnout, leading to less decrease in numbers.

“We continue to support our students in placement, hosting fairs that allow employers to connect with students upfront and market the positives of their school and work with them. We work with students on advocacy for their best employment options to balance the rigors of the classroom,” Levell added.

One important point Levell wanted to make is that Career Connections is not just an office students should contact during their last year at IU. Instead, she encourages students to make appointments as early as possible and take advantage of all the resources the office has for them.
