The purpose of the award is to recognize IU School of Education tenure-eligible assistant professors who have shown exceptional promise and early achievements in research.
Award for Outstanding Early-Career Research
The award is limited to IUB School of Education tenure-eligible assistant professors.
Each spring, the School of Education Awards aim to spotlight the significant work of our tenure-eligible assistant professors in various research areas. The Annual Merit Review Process will provide the basis for identifying potential candidates for these Awards. In January, a call will be sent out to all faculty to nominate individuals or, for tenure-eligible assistant professors, to self-nominate for this award. From these nominations/self-nominations, members of the Annual Merit Review Committees (from each department and research centers) will then select up to 10% of their tenure-eligible assistant professors based on the award criteria. Department chairs will forward the eligible faculty to the [ TBD ] by February 15. No past recipient of these awards will be considered eligible for a second award in less than a three-year period, given the early-stage nature of early-career faculty.
$1500 will be awarded and deposited in the awardee’s research or other account for professional purposes.
The Research, Development, and External Partnerships Committee will consider the following criteria:
- Quality and quantity of publications in the last calendar year, keeping in mind the early stage of the nominee's career.
- Potential or emerging grants, grant-related achievements, and any leadership roles taken on those grants (active in that calendar year).
- Evidence of early impact and significance in the last year.
- Ongoing work (e.g., work in progress) that signals the trajectory and potential of the nominee's research agenda.
Tenure-eligible assistant professor nominees should prepare an electronic packet for the Committee reviewers, containing:
- A statement detailing the significance and potential impact of their research over the last 3 years (no more than a single-spaced one page).
- A summary of research and grant-related achievements over the past calendar year (no more than a single-spaced one page).
- A full CV, emphasizing accomplishments from the past calendar year.
Awardees will automatically be nominated for the IUB Outstanding Junior Faculty Award for the following academic year.
