This lab is a collaborative effort between School of Education faculty and Education Technology Services (ETS). We’re glad you’re taking advantage of this service, and hope that you find it an effective platform for working with specialized methods software critical to your academic career.
Welcome to the Inquirium
Data loss and other disclaimers
Save your work – but not on this computer!
These computers are configured to wipe user profiles periodically, which means that anything saved on the computer itself is at risk of being permanently deleted.
The recommended approach is to use one of your IU-provided cloud storage accounts (Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive), allowing you to store both input- and output- data locally, while ensuring that it is also backed up to a safe and convenient location.
- Visit IU’s Cloud Storage Portal, and enable the connection to your OneDrive, Google Drive, or other account.
Read more about this portal in the IU Knowledge Base - Install the appropriate file synchronization client on the computers (outside the Inquirium) where you will be working with inquiry data.
These clients are already installed in the Inquirium and will automatically connect to your account on login if you have successfully completed the previous step. - Save your “input” data to your preferred cloud storage account. Make sure it fully synchronizes to the cloud before logging off / shutting down the computer where you saved it.
- When using Inquirium computers, load and save data directly from/to the synchronized folder connected to your preferred cloud storage account
Protect the privacy of sensitive data
If you are working with simulated / example data, you don’t need to worry much about prying eyes. However if you are storing real data (about real people, organizations, etc), you are responsible for protecting those data from inappropriate use or disclosure.
Use the right cloud storage account
Non-IU accounts are appropriate for working with simulated or example data, but should never be used to store data that could be considered sensitive. When working with real datasets, always use an account provided by IU. These accounts provide security, privacy, and legal protections not present on typical free- or consumer-level cloud storage accounts.
Avoid certain applications
Not all applications available in the Inquirium are approved to be used with all classifications of data! Applications and the approved data classes are listed in the table below. More info about data classification at IU can be found on IU’s
