About Me

I am an Associate Professor in Human Development and also an Associate Research Scientist with the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. I have a broad background in adolescent sexual and gender development and mental health research utilizing advanced statistical methodologies and longitudinal research practices. My primary research interest include gender and sexual development with my current area of research focused on the rich experiences of LGBTQ youth in the U.S., including risk and protective factors for suicidality. My research further explores experiences at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, such as LGBTQ youth of color and the specific experiences of transgender and nonbinary young people.

Because wide-spread dissemination is important to me, my work and op-eds have been featured in high quality academic journals as well as popular press including Time magazine, Scientific American, The Grio, CNN, NBC, PopSugar, Forbes, Out, and Axios among others.

I earned my Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and previously served as the Director of Research Science at The Trevor Project prior to my current role.

I am accepting doctoral students in Human Development whose research interests align with mine.
