Afghanistan Higher Education Project
The Afghanistan Higher Education Project (HEP) is a six-year effort funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to improve institutional administration and pre-service secondary teacher education at the 18 higher education institutions across Afghanistan. CSSIE’s has served as an implementing partner to increase the instructional capacity of Faculty instructors in the Departments of English, Science, and Mathematics throughout Afghanistan. In 2007 Indiana University hosted 12 Afghan English Department faculty members at IU to study and obtain a Master degree through the IU’s School of Education. In 2008, Indiana University sent 16 Afghan English Department faculty members to Singapore’s Regional English Language Center for a six-month intensive program, which focused on increasing the content knowledge and teaching skills of the participants.
