Six teams of IU School of Education students spent last month engaging in meaningful research and interacting with statewide education professionals about a real-world education challenge: confronting the teacher shortage in Indiana.
Each team was given the challenge at the end of January. They had until February 24 to come up with a plan to solve the challenge and put together a five-page paper and eight-minute presentation to a judging panel that included experienced teachers, principals and practitioners of education. Each team had a faculty or staff advisor to assist them with their plan.
The winners included:
- Anna Miller & Olivia Wood - 1st ($2500)
- Jared Adley & Michelle Stankard - 2nd ($1500)
- Sophie Glazer, Emerson Miller & Mackenzie Pierce - 3rd ($1000)
“One of the most inspiring moments was when one of the last teams competed, you heard the cheers from the rest of the teams in the atrium. It was a very supportive competition,” said Patrick McKamy, Director of Advising and Retention.
