HESA Master's Curriculum

Curriculum

The HESA curriculum is designed to help you connect what you learn in the classroom with the experiences you are having in your graduate assistantship. We have designed a curriculum that is intentional in providing you with the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful student affairs practitioner.

Sample Program Plan for Full-time Master's Students

This sample is only to provide you with a sense of what a course load could look like at IU. All academic course selections should be discussed with your academic advisor.

Master’s courses are typically identified with a “U” prefix and doctoral courses typically begin with a “C” prefix with the exception of C565. There are several courses that can be taken by both master’s and doctoral students. Please consult with a faculty advisor if you have a question whether a certain course can count toward your program.

  • Each student is assigned a full-time faculty member as an academic advisor
  • 41 credit hours are needed to complete the program
  • Full-time students take 2 years to complete the program
  • Cohort sizes vary between 35-50 students
  • Students take 9-12 credit hours per semester
  • A large number of students either take an internship or classes during the summer
  • All students are required to complete a practicum (field experience) outside of their assistantship
