Professor Daniel Castner led an overseas study experience with six students from the Community of Teachers (CoT) program to Hamburg, Germany, last November. The trip was co-sponsored by Deutscher Akademischer Austaauschdienst (DAAD) and the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs.
The group visited a local school, the Regional Center for Education and Counseling, and sat in on seminars at Universität Hamburg (UHH) on educational psychology and civics education. The study experience also included historical tours, a harbor boat tour, a visit to the BalliStadt Emigration Museum and an exhibition on non-verbal communication called Dialogue in Silence. In their free time, the students explored the city. They enjoyed a wide variety of cuisine and shopped at the local Christmas markets. The students look forward to reconnecting with their new friends from UHH when they return the visit and welcome UHH students this year.
The experience and program were facilitated by the collaboration between the IU School of Education Global and International Engagement unit and Universität Hamburg (UHH)’s Faculty of Education’s International Office.
