IU students looking for community partnerships and involvement, along with a safe and brave space to bring their authentic selves, are invited to join the Community of Diverse Educators.
CODE seeks to discuss, challenge and dismantle issues and barriers that hyperraced and traditionally underrepresented communities face in the field of education through empowerment and advocacy. In addition to serving the School of Education, CODE regularly works with the local community to support education. CODE also serves as a communal space for individuals to openly discuss challenges, share successes and build a network of support between students, faculty, staff, experts and educators.
Students interested in joining don’t need to be education majors - anyone is welcome.
Upcoming events for CODE include a General Body Meeting on Wednesday, September 28, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 1250. The organization will also host a Halloween party on Wednesday, October 26.
CODE also organizes after school volunteering in partnership with the Banneker Community Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m. at Fairview Elementary School. Those interested in volunteering for this should visit the Bloomington Volunteer Network website and complete a background check.
