Create your School of Education community by joining an undergraduate organization

With a new school year comes new opportunities to connect. If you’re looking to meet new people and get involved at the IU School of Education, we have several undergraduate student organizations for you to join.

Through our student organizations, you can learn more about the field of education, meet fellow education students and even help shape the future of the IU School of Education. Student clubs are also a great way to expand your professional network and find out about new job, fellowship and internship opportunities.

  • Books & Beyond - Books & Beyond is a student-led project with two main aims: to provide high-quality reading material for school children in Rwanda, a country that is experiencing a “book famine,” and to foster critical thinking skills as students author, illustrate, publish, and market an annual cross-cultural anthology of children’s stories.
  • Dean’s Advisory Council - Represent your fellow undergraduate students as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council. Council members work directly with the Office of Teacher Education to help shape policies and procedures at the School of Education. In addition, the Dean’s Advisory Council takes part in special projects and activities, hosts outreach programs, brings speakers to campus, and publishes a newsletter. All undergraduate students are eligible to join.
  • Education Policy Student Association - Be part of a cross-campus conversation on topics related to education policy. The Education Policy Student Association sponsors speakers and provides opportunities for you to participate in panel discussions. We sponsor an ongoing film series featuring documentaries on topics related to education policy. We also provide career development resources, including internship, fellowship and job opportunities.
  • Indiana Student Education Association - The Indiana Student Education Association is a student group affiliated with the National Education Association, the largest professional employee organization in the United States. As a dues-paying member, you’ll have access to professional publications, workshops, conferences, and training with local, state, and national educators. You’ll also enjoy discounts on NEA dues and liability coverage once you become a practicing teacher. For more information, contact Emily McCord.
  • Kappa Delta Pi - Kappa Delta Pi is the International Honor Society in Education. Students may be invited to join the organization based upon their involvement within the School of Education and maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Kappa Delta Pi holds many service projects within the School of Education and the community, such as the Scholastic Book Fair, Literacy Alive and raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake. If you would like to receive more information about Kappa Delta Pi, please email the group.
  • Student Council for Exceptional Children - The Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) is a nationally recognized student run organization within the School of Education. SCEC members volunteer with organizations in and around the Bloomington area, specifically with the Down Syndrome Family Connection. This organization is relatively new and is looking to grow and expand. If you’d like to get involved or receive more information, email the organization. New members and volunteers are always welcome!
  • Urban Needs in Teacher Education - Urban Needs in Teacher Education is an organization composed of graduate and undergraduate students who have a passion for urban education. Members attend professional development workshops, hear from speakers who have experience in urban schools, and attend yearly trips to Chicago to collaborate with other UNITE chapters and work directly with Chicago Public Schools. UNITE strives to prepare college students to be effective and engaging classroom teachers in urban settings. With UNITE’s guidance and support, members will begin their first day of teaching with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure their students’ success.
