Instructional Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities

The Bloomington Faculty Council has charged the Office of Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs to communicate to the faculty each semester the following statement of faculty instructional responsibilities:

Faculty members teaching courses have the responsibility to provide instruction as scheduled. Variations from the schedule may occur for a variety of reasons, including illness, professional activities, and pedagogical considerations. When such variations occur, it is the responsibility of the faculty member both to provide equivalent academic activity for the students in the course and to notify the chairperson of the department offering the course of the change in schedule.

It is important to keep this statement in mind as we proceed through the semester and approach the final examination period. Cancellation of a class or a final examination may be made only if consonant with instructional responsibilities as specified above.
