Factor Future Educator Program Counselor Position
This position is funded for 8 counselors, a day of training in May and will work 8-9 hrs/day the week of June 21–28, 2025.
- Shift 1: 7am – 4pm (with 1 hour break) – 3 counselors
- Shift 2: 3pm – 11pm (with 1 hour break) – 4 counselors
- Night Shift: 10pm – 7am (with 1 hour break) – 1 counselor
Pay Flat Rate: $1000
Description: We are seeking enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students to serve as staff for a week-long summer college simulation program for high school students. Responsibilities include chaperoning, escorting students to and from classes, and developing, designing, and facilitating icebreakers, energizers, and other engaging activities to inspire excitement about careers in education. Preference will be given to candidates pursuing degrees within the School of Education.

Expectations for Scholar Mentor and Counselor Behaviors:
- Develop a strong working relationship with FFE Staff. They are here to help you andprovide support and encouragement. You should also establish positive workingrelationships with faculty members.
- Communication is very important. Inform administrative staff of major problemsimmediately.
- Staff is expected to project a positive attitude toward all duties.
- Although all staff will have designated break times, in reality, students may need help atany time. It is the responsibility of staff to be available to help or direct students tosomeone who can.
- Staff is expected to act in a mature manner on all occasions and show respect for theirpeers. Consistent cooperation among scholar mentors and counselors will ensure theoptimum working atmosphere and, therefore, inter-counselor rivalry will not be tolerated.If staff members find themselves in conflict, they are encouraged to talk to the coordinatorto solve the problem.
- Staff is expected to abide by the same rules as students while in the dorm during FEE. Noalcohol, tobacco products, or illegal drugs are permitted. No scholar mentor or counselorshould ever be in such a state as to cause any embarrassment to FFE or the university orbe unable to adequately perform his or her assigned duties.
DAILY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Staff is expected to be up and visible on their floors in the morning, as students are gettingready for the day. This allows you to check, informally, the health of each student and findout any problems or answer any questions that may have.
- Staff is expected to follow the schedule for check-in and check-out until the last residenthas left.
- Staff is expected to be meet with the Director/Coordinator as directed. We will discussdaily activities, any problems from the night before and any special requests or needs.
- Staff should eat most meals with students. Use mealtimes to meet new people and tohelp shy students do the same.
- When staff is on their floors and available to students, the door to their rooms should beopen. If a student knocks on a closed door, determine the problem, and make thenecessary referral, unless it is an emergency situation that staff should deal with directly.
- Staff should notice and report any physical problems (peeling paint, dripping faucets, etc.)around the residence hall. Staff is expected to maintain clean hallways, bathrooms, andfloor lounges by ensuring that the students are cleaning up after themselves and behavingappropriately.
- Staff is expected to enforce rules and regulations of IU, the Halls of Residence, and FFE.
- All events, such as first aid, service calls, problems, and transportation to health carefacilities should be logged so there is an official record of what happened, when ithappened, and what action was taken.
Staff are not eligible to work at another IU job during FFE unless cleared by HR. They should consult with Lisa Dovenbarger (brameier@iu.edu) to ensure they will not have to take a service break which could interfere with other IU positions. Skills required:
