Trainings

Trainings

The I-CARE program was initiated in response to a request to train human service personnel in group counseling interventions in sub-Saharan Africa. The President of the African Association of Guidance and Counselling (AAGC), Dan-Bush Bhusumane, contacted Rex Stockton, Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Indiana University. Mr. Bhusumane requested assistance with training in counseling procedures for those who were doing frontline work with people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa, starting in Botswana. Stockton and his wife, Dr. Nancy Stockton led the first workshop training in 2004. Since then, a number of other people have joined together as the I-CARE team (click here for info. on team members) to continue these trainings and research over the years.Trainings and research have taken place in Botswana, Kenya and Senegal (consultation only). Research is currently place in Botswana.

NOTE: Results of some of these activities have been reported in various conferences world-wide.
