Dean Lemuel Watson will serve on a new board that will work to improve civic education opportunities throughout the state.
The Civic Education Task Force, a part of the Indiana Bar Foundation, is made up of leaders and experts in politics and education from around the state. This team will analyze civic education in Indiana, with a goal to produce a report with actionable recommendations by the end of the year.
“I am honored to have been asked to serve on the Civic Education Task Force. I believe this is a very important time in our history to reiterate the importance of civic and democratic educational values and notions,” Watson said. “At the heart of what makes our communities vibrant, civil and engaged is the citizen who understands the importance of all of the processes that affect our collective beliefs, commitments and actions as members of the whole.”
“I want to make sure that I serve the state of Indiana communities and Indiana University well through my contributions. I also hope to engage our faculty on the issues so that my representation would also bring multiple perspectives in the discourse,” he added.
