Synergy in Science: Bridging Classrooms and Laboratories

Synergy in Science: Bridging Classrooms and Laboratories (SynergySci) project is designed to provide Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) high school science teachers with professional development on effective STEM integration and partner the participating teachers with Indiana University (IU) scientists to co-design authentic STEM lessons and activities. SynergySci’s approach of having teachers and scientists co-design lessons ensures that the lessons contain accurate and cutting-edge science content and that the lessons address the needs of teachers and students.

The goals of the project include:

  • Cultivating and fostering sustainable partnerships between Indiana University (IU) scientists and MCCSC science teachers.
  • Increasing the number of authentic, integrated STEM lessons students experience that are co-designed and taught by MCCSC teachers.
  • Increasing the adoption and application of integrated STEM activities by providing MCCSC high school science teachers with the time and resources to develop their own lessons.

Benefits to participants

Participating MCCSC teachers will receive professional development, time for project development, free classroom resources, follow-up support, and $750 stipends. The project will run during the 2024-2025 academic year and conclude in May 2025.
