Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington receives ACPA & NASPA Awards |
Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington (M.S.‘84) received the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Esther Lloyd-Jones Professional Service Award. This award honors a professional's commitment to service through significant, continued, and unselfish service/leadership activities that have benefited the nominee’s campus, the profession, ACPA, and the profession's practice on the state and national level. He also received the Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Bobby E. Leach Equity Diversity, and Inclusion Award. This award honors a senior student affairs professional or faculty member who has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion throughout their administrative or academic tenure. Rev. Dr. Washington is the President & Founder of the Washington Consulting Group, the President and Co-Founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and a Past President of ACPA.

Dr. Demetri L. Morgan receives the ACPA Emerging Scholar Award |
Dr. Demetri L. Morgan (M.S.Ed’ 13) received the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Emerging Scholar Award. This award honors early-career individuals who are emerging as contributors to student affairs and higher education scholarship and who are pursuing research initiatives congruent with the mission, interests, and strategic goals of ACPA. Dr. Morgan is an Assistant Professor in the Higher Education Program at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Morgan's research agenda is exploring the relationship between postsecondary education institutions and the political and democratic implications for minoritized groups. | | |

Dr. Helen Grace Ryan receives the Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA |
Dr. Helen Grace Ryan (M.S.‘02, Ph.D. ‘09) Vice President for Student Affairs at Bellarmine University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service from the Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA). The award honors a NASPA member who has served in leadership roles at the state, regional, national, or international levels of NASPA, and who has had, at minimum, ten continuous years of NASPA membership. The Fred Turner Award is NASPA’s equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. | | |

Dr. Cameron C. Beatty receives the HESA 2021 Elizabeth A. Greenleaf Distinguished Alumni Award |
Dr. Cameron C. Beatty (M.S. Ed.’10) received the 2021 Elizabeth A. Greenleaf Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is presented annually to a graduate of the IU Higher Education and Student Affairs master’s program who exemplifies “the sincere commitment, professional leadership and personal warmth” of Betty Greenleaf, for whom the award is named. Dr. Beatty is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Florida State University. He is a scholar passionate about deconstructing race, systemic racism, and hegemonic masculinity in postsecondary education environments. | | |

Dr. Daniel A. Bureau receives the HESA 2021 Robert H. Shaffer Distinguished Alumni Award |
Dr. Daniel A. Bureau (Ph.D. ‘11) received the 2021 Robert H. Shaffer Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is presented annually to a graduate of the IU Higher Education doctoral program who exemplifies outstanding service to the student affairs profession. Dr. Bureau experience in higher education and student affairs spans almost 25 years. He has been actively engaged in the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA), ACPA, NASPA and the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). He is a past AFA president and has served as the AFA representative for the CAS since 2008, and he currently serves as CAS president. He has written over 100 articles that focus on areas such as fraternity and sorority life, student engagement, student affairs assessment, and supporting diverse student populations. | | |

HESA Ph.D. Candidate receives AREA Research Grant |
HESA Ph.D. candidate, Dajanae Palmer received the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division D, Measurement and Research Methodologies Small Research Grant. This grant is meant to encourage and support doctoral students and early career scholars whose research is focused on methodological issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion caused by our current COVID-19 pandemic. Dajanae will be invited to present her research at the 2022 AERA conference. The grant supports her dissertation titled "I Got A Lot to be Mad About: Sista Circles as a Counterspace for Black Women Doctoral Students".
