Charmian Lam wins 2020 CCCC Scholars for the Dream Travel Award |
Charmian Lam, current doctoral student in the Higher Education & Student Affairs Program, has won a 2020 CCCC Scholars for the Dream Travel Award. The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) is a constituent organization within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) which supports and promotes the teaching and study of composition, rhetoric, and communication skills at the college level, both in undergraduate and graduate programs. Lam is one of 20 recipients of this award. CCCC sponsors the Scholars for the Dream Awards to encourage scholarship by historically underrepresented groups. CCCC offers to scholars up to twenty travel awards of $1,000 each, sponsors a reception for all award winners, and offers a one-year membership in NCTE and CCCC. The Awards Selection Committee considers originality of research, significance of pedagogical or theoretical contributions to the field, and potential for larger, subsequent projects. Lam will be announced as a recipient of the CCCC Scholars for the Dream Travel Award on Thursday, March 26, during the 2020 CCCC Annual Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Doug Bauder featured on the Chronicle of Higher Education |
Doug Bauder was recently featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education for his 25 years of service at Indiana University’s LGBTQ+ Culture Center. Bauder spoke with The Chronicle about student support, political activism, assisting other universities with creating LGBTQ+ centers and helping LGBTQ+ students feel at home at IU. When asked about the lessons Bauder has learned that could be helpful to leaders of other LGBTQ+ Culture Centers, Bauder responded by saying, “Tell stories. Stats are really important, but we don’t need statistics — we need stories. When people know someone who’s queer, who’s gay, who’s trans, often their whole view of this so-called political issue or even religious issue changes. I think that’s been the success.” | | |
