Jean L. Orr receives LGBTQ+ Distinguished Alumni Award
Jean L. Orr (M.S.Ed ‘08) recently received the 2018 LGBTQ+ Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indiana University LGBTQ+ Alumni Association. The LGBTQ+ Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented to members of the LGBTQ community and individual allies or supporters of the LGBTQ community, regardless of sexual orientation. Orr has been a leader in the NCAAS’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in college athletics, particularly for LGBTQ+ student athletes, coaches, administrators, and staff. She serves as the liaison to the NCAA’s LGBTQ Working Group for Division III schools, with responsibility for overseeing the development of a culture/climate survey to guide LGBTQ initiatives and resources. She is also on the NCAAS’s People of Color Employee Resource Group and represents NCAA as an affiliate member of Out & Equal Indiana, a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving LGBT workplace equality.
Allison BrckaLorenz is awarded the LGBTQ+ Culture Center Spirit Award
Allison BrckaLorenz was recently awarded the 2018 LGBTQ+ Culture Center Spirit Award. This award was initiated by students in 1999 on the occasion of the Center’s 5th anniversary and is to be presented each year to individuals, groups, offices and departments that embody the strength, character, and spirit of the Indiana University GLBT Student Support Services Office (now the LGBTQ+ Culture Center).
Dominic Dorsey is Named Director of SIUE Disability Support Services
Dominic Dorsey (M.S.Ed ‘11) was recently named the director of Disability Support Services at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Dorsey was previously the Associate Director of Adaptive and Educational Services at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he worked to construct interactive accommodations for students of various diagnoses and developed policies to increase accessibility throughout the campus. Dorsey will begin his new position in January 2018.
