Aspiring superintendents and district leaders can combine the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a master’s degree in strategic management from the IU Kelley School of Business. Courses for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership meet one weekend per month on the Bloomington campus. Students take the Kelley Direct courses online after they complete most Ed.D. requirements. Because both degree programs count some hours from each program toward the degree requirements, you can earn both degrees in less time and at less expense. We’ve included some additional details below:
- Ed.D. students would complete all requirements for the Ed.D. degree except for 9 hours of coursework and their dissertations. These 9 hours typically are placed in the Ed.D. minor. The qualifying examination would be taken prior to the beginning work on the MSSM. (Note that the qualifying exam requirement can be waived as a precondition for starting).
- Prior to starting work on their dissertation, students would be admitted to the Kelley Direct MSSM. Admission to the Ed.D. program would satisfy the requirements for admission to Kelley Direct MSSM. However, students must formally apply to both programs. For students in this joint program, the GMAT and admission fee will be waived for the Kelley Direct MSSM.
- Students would spend the next 3 terms enrolling through KD in the SIS GRAD1 Career completing 18 hours (two 3 hour courses per term). The Kelley School MSSM advisor would work with the Ed.D. program coordinator to select courses for a plan of study which would be most helpful for the Ed.D. students while also meeting academic expectations for those completing a Kelly MS degree.
In sum, the Kelley MSSM is 30 credit hours, but you only complete 18 credits hours. Kelley takes 12 credits from your Ed.D. program. The Ed.D. program will take 9 credits from Kelley (usually placed in the minor). Please contact Dr. Suzanne Eckes at firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
In addition to the course work outlined for the Ed.S. in Education (Educational Leadership Track), students will also complete the business courses below. See detailed degree requirements for the online M.S. in Strategic Management.
