Take a highly individualized approach to your education as a secondary teacher.
Community of Teachers (CoT) is a Teacher Education Program (TEP) for undergraduate and graduate students preparing for a career at the secondary level, as well as experienced teachers returning to school to pursue license additions and continuing education.
In this innovative program you’ll work closely with a small cohort of students from a variety of content fields and at different stages in their education, as well as a faculty coordinator.
Once a week, you’ll meet to explore issues together. This seminar, with its accompanying field experiences, is the cornerstone of the program.
Rather than simply completing required course work, you’ll select your mentor and will work to develop a portfolio of teaching competencies based on national standards.
The program culminates in a semester-long student teaching experience in a middle school or high school classroom. There, you'll manage a class, give lessons, and assess student performance under the guidance of a mentor teacher. You can also take on additional field engagements as early as your second semester (depending on your admission status) through our early field experiences program.
The time it takes to complete the program varies based on your background and teaching experience. To complete the program, you must satisfy the Program Expectations, complete the required course work, and the student teaching.
