P-16 Partners in Project to Increase Global Perspectives Across Indiana

A new project aiming to instill global viewpoints in classrooms across Indiana has received funding from the Longview Foundation. The project, Infusing Global Perspectives in K-16 Education across Indiana, aims to infuse global perspectives in K-12 curricula and educational programs by implementing initiatives for Indiana University School of Education’s pre-service teachers and faculty members, as well as K-12 school principals across Indiana.
The grant will help fund three initiatives that are aimed at different target audiences:
- Global Competence Workshop Series, is aimed at the School of Education’s pre-service teachers in an effort to nurture the growth of global competence among the nation’s future teachers.
- Faculty Workshops on Infusing Global Perspectives will be organized for faculty from the School of Education to help them infuse global perspectives in their syllabi and curriculum.
- Principals Academy on Internationalizing K-12 schools, will equip principals from across Indiana with strategies for moving ideas about internationalization into practice.
The ultimate goal of the project, according to Dr. Vesna Dimitrieska, Director, Global Education Initiatives at the Center for P-16 Research and Collaboration, is for Indiana students become globally-minded, engaged citizens.
“A project of this kind is necessary and timely as it allows for more structured internationalization of K-12 education across Indiana,” Dimitrieska remarked. “To affect change, the grant partners will work with pre-service teachers and faculty from IU’s School of Education, and K-12 principals.
The project is a collaboration between the School of Education, the Indiana University School of Global and International Studies, the Indiana Department of Education and Purdue University.
