Krista Glazewski, Associate Professor and Department Chair of Instructional Systems Technology, has won this year’s Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award from the IU Center of Excellence for Women & Technology.

Glazewski said she was exceedingly honored to receive the award: “Some of the proudest work I do is to help others be successful with their goals, ideas, and progress. I am so lucky because IU students are among the best I have ever encountered.”

As a mentor, Glazewski works hard to help her students realize their goals and helps connect them to opportunities, resources and other leaders in the field. Part of that work is helping to create space to share stories with each other.

Women with interests in technology and technology-adjacent fields confront some serious but often predictable barriers. By opening up spaces for storytelling, we have the opportunity to help others navigate and make sense of their experiences,” she said.

“Another critical aspect to their success is deep knowledge and expert skills, so I work with my students – all of them – to expand their fluency and gain command with their ideas and skills,” Glazewski added. “Finally, I make it a point to help students see what they may not be seeing. I regularly ask them to question their assumptions, rethink their perspectives and explain their ideas."

Her biggest hope is for her students is that they will build on what they have gained, continue to make impacts with their ideas and turn around to mentor and support others.

“I am tremendously lucky to have so many mentors, both formerly and currently, so I feel responsible to continue to give that forward,” she added.

This award is given annually to an IU faculty member who displays noteworthy mentorship and is nominated by their students or peers. This is the second year in a row a faculty member from the School of Education has won this award.
