Terry Mason, associate dean for research and development in the Indiana University School of Education, has been named the school’s interim dean, IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren Robel has announced. He will begin this one-year appointment July 1.

IU School of Education and Evansville Vanderburgh schools partner to prepare school leaders

The Indiana University School of Education is partnering with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. to prepare future leaders for Evansville schools. Working in collaboration with faculty in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, the partnership will initially prepare 25 teacher leaders for future work as school principals, assistant principals and other leadership positions in the district.

Online doctorate program sees first graduate

The spring 2015 commencement ceremonies marked an important first for not just a particular graduate, but also an Indiana University School of Education graduate program. Gina Anderson became the first graduate of the doctor of education degree (Ed.D.) in Instructional Systems Technology.

Hossler given IU award for research and teaching

Don Hossler, professor of educational leadership and policy studies in the IU School of Education, will receive the 2015 Tracy M. Sonneborn Award. The award honors an Indiana University Bloomington faculty member for outstanding research and teaching.

The Indiana University School of Education has named nine Indiana school teachers as the latest Martha Lea and Bill Armstrong Teacher Educators. The School of Education honored the new class for the 2015-16 school year during the annual Celebration of Teaching ceremony April 22.

Christina Wright Fields, director of the Balfour Scholars Program based at the Indiana University School of Education, has earned a national honor for promoting Latino student success. The American College Personnel Association/College Student Educators International has named Wright-Fields as the 2015 recipient of the “Support Latin@ Student Success Award.”

CEEP brief finds statewide voucher programs growing, but enrollment growth may level off

A new brief from the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy at Indiana University comparing statewide voucher programs finds all are growing as never before in the past five years. The brief, “Mapping the Growth of Statewide Voucher Programs in the United States,” examines the only four statewide voucher systems for students in general education programs (open to all students): Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Louisiana.

Harmony-Meier Institute panel takes on equity and democracy in education

A panel of educators and lawyers has called for an education system that treats all people with dignity and respect. Taking part in Wednesday’s public launch of The Harmony-Meier Institute for Democracy and Equity in Education, they touched on topics ranging from race in America to the gay rights movement and the need for dramatic changes in education.

Blue ribbon committee will assess programs in education at Indiana University

Indiana University announced it has formed a blue ribbon committee to conduct a comprehensive review of its programs in education at Bloomington, Indianapolis and the regional campuses, as foreshadowed in the IU Bicentennial Strategic Plan.The effort comes with the retirement of IU School of Education Dean Gerardo Gonzalez, after 15 years of serving in that position, and advances the university's Bicentennial Strategic Plan making "re-imagining education" one of eight major priorities for the next five years. Gonzalez will step down as dean at the end of June.

Russian higher education administrators at IU to improve international exchange programs

Eight administrators of international higher education programs across Russia are at Indiana University Bloomington for a month to learn more about building their own scholar exchanges. They are part of the Fulbright Russian International Education Administrators program, an annual professional training program initiated by the U.S. State Department in 2007.
