Avie Jarka

Edina, MN

Major:
Secondary Education with a focus in Biology

Why I chose education:
I have moved all over the country growing up and have been fortunate enough to see different styles of teaching wherever we move. I want to become a teacher so that I too can make my students feel welcome just like each of my teachers did when I was the new kid in school.

Favorite thing about the School of Ed:
How quickly we get to start teaching in classrooms. Being able to figure out what age and subject you love teaching so early on in our careers really does help us strive to become the best teachers.

Joshua Pereira

Carmel, IN

Major:
Secondary Education: Social Studies

Why I chose education:
I chose education because I've always had a passion for history as a subject even outside of the classroom. Additionally I've always enjoyed spending my free time helping others through volunteer work or academic tutoring. My mother is a teacher, so once I figured out that I could help students learn about history and social studies I decided that this was the career path that was right for me.

Favorite thing about the School of Ed:
My favorite part about the school of education is that it is an empowering community of educators that all share the same goal to educate future generations. The closeness of students and the warm environment brought by the professors cultivates an excellent learning environment where we can advance our educational goals together!
