About Me

Mariah Pol is a Ph.D. student in Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies. Mariah’s experiences center on the inclusion of multiple historical and cultural perspectives in Social Studies Education. Mariah also received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and is a former participant in the Global Gateway for Teachers program, student teaching in Ireland in 2015. Prior to doctoral studies, for six years, Mariah taught both 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. In her school district, leadership roles included serving as the Middle School Social Studies Department Chair and Mentor to new and pre-service teachers. Mariah excelled as a teacher, earning numerous grants and teacher fellowships. This allowed her to travel to numerous countries to continue immersing herself in multiple historical and cultural perspectives to create meaningful curriculum for her students. These include teacher trips to Germany, Greece, South Korea, Morocco, Spain, Bahrain, and Japan. She was awarded the 2019 Indiana History Teacher of the Year through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the 2020 Caleb Mills Indiana History Teacher of the Year through the Indiana Historical Society. She is thrilled to give back to the program that has given so much to her and inspired her journey as an educator.
