Joint B.S./M.S.Ed. in Secondary Education for Mathematics and Science Majors

America's classrooms need you. If you are an undergraduate mathematics or science major, you can earn a master's degree in secondary education by adding just one more year to your degree program.

This five-year degree program enables you to graduate with both a B.S. in mathematics, biology, chemistry, geology, physics or environmental science as well as an M.S.Ed. in Secondary Education.

For more information about this program, speak with your College of Arts and Sciences advisor or contact Alfreda M. Clegg at the School of Education.

Eligibility Requirements

If you are a mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, geology, or environmental science major with at least 90 credit hours toward your degree, you can apply to the M.S.Ed. in Mathematics Education or M.S.Ed. in Science and Environmental Education programs. You should apply no later than November 1 of the year before you want to begin your graduate studies.

Joint Semester

During the spring semester of your senior year, qualifying course work will be counted toward both your B.S. degree and your M.S.Ed. degree. You will remain in the College of Arts and Sciences for this semester, then transition to the School of Education.

Licensure Program

Beginning in the second summer session following your senior year, you will join the Secondary Transition to Teaching program. This 18-credit hour program prepares you for Indiana licensure as a secondary educator.
