Teacher Education Scholarships for Current Students
The School of Education offers scholarships specifically for future teachers. To qualify, you must be a current School of Education student, or a student within the University Division with the intention of being an education major. By completing the Teacher Education Scholarship application, you will be considered for over 50 scholarship opportunities.
Scholarships are competitive and awarded based on your grades, test scores, letters of recommendation, and essays.
To apply for a teacher education scholarship, you must include the following information with your application:
- Two letters of recommendation
- Your current IU cumulative GPA
- Essay responses to these questions:
- What traits or qualities do you believe a good teacher should possess?
- Drawing from your own experiences, how are you preparing yourself to become the good teacher you described in your response?
The Scholarship application is available from December 15th until February 1st. Apply during this timeframe to be considered for scholarships for the following academic year. When the application is available, see below for the link.

We regret that we do not accept applications for teacher education scholarships from students in the College of Arts and Sciences, Jacobs School of Music, or School of Public Health – Bloomington (formerly the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation). You may still apply for some of the additional scholarships listed here.
Scholarships for Incoming Freshman
All undergraduate students will be considered for automatic academic scholarships as incoming freshmen when they apply to Indiana University. In addition, the School of Education offers special scholarships for current students planning to major in education.
Automatic Academic Scholarships
Indiana University automatically awards merit scholarships to students whose grades and test scores indicate a person of outstanding academic ability. You don’t have to fill out a separate application for an Automatic Academic Scholarship; if you meet the minimum requirements, you will automatically receive the scholarship if you are admitted to IU.

Direct Admit Scholarships
All incoming freshmen who have been invited to join the Direct Admit Scholars program will automatically be considered for School of Education Scholarship opportunities.
