How to Apply
Undergraduate Admission to the School of Education and Teacher Education Programs.
- Step 1: Admission to Indiana University, Bloomington Undergraduate students must first be admitted to Indiana University through the Office of Admissions. Upon matriculation, all new and transfer students are placed in University Division for initial advising and orientation to the university.
- Step 2: Current IU Bloomington students seeking admission to the School of Education Teacher Education Programs must complete a separate on-line application (see Step #4 below) that documents program specific admission requirements, including:
- Completion of 26 credits with a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- Completion of TEP admission course requirements for the undergraduate teacher education program. Refer to individual program sheets for a list of admission courses and other admission requirements specific to the program.
- A Content Area 2.5 GPA for all Secondary programs (except Secondary Mathematics: 2.0 GPA) and All School Settings programs.
- Content Area GPA: 2.0 GPA for Early Childhood Education, Elementary, Teaching All Learners.
- Qualifying scores on any one of the following: Praxis I Test, SAT, ACT, GRE or a Master's Degree from an accredited institution. For score details go to TEP Admission Testing Requirements.
Note: Admission to all programs is competitive. Applicants will be ranked by GPA, completion of prerequisites and completion of other program requirements. GPA and meeting the other requirements listed above allows a student to be considered for, but not guaranteed, admission to the Teacher Education Program and School of Education.
- Step 3: Applicants will need to meet the program specific requirements for their area of interest.
- Step 4: How to apply to the School of Education Teacher Education Programs: Indiana University students may apply for admission to the School of Education and Teacher Education Programs online once they have met all the admission requirements: Go to: https://info.educ.indiana.edu/teis/
- Click “Login” and enter your Indiana University network id and password.
- After logging into the system, click on "Teacher Education Admissions" located in the left navigation area.
- Click "Apply to the Teacher Education Program" to fill out your online application

You will be notified via e-mail of your admission status 2 to 5 days after you have submitted your online application. If you are notified that you don’t meet the admission criteria, we recommend that you check your application when you receive your Praxis I/ACT/SAT/GRE scores or when there is a change in your GPA, enrollment status and/or grades in admission courses. You may resubmit your application online when you qualify for admission.
Additional Note: Schools require students to provide an up-to-date criminal history check and make determinations on whether or not they will accept students that have a criminal record or arrest on their criminal history for placements in their schools for both field experience and student teaching. We will do our best to assist you, however, we cannot be responsible for disruptions to your program or inability to complete program requirements due to decisions of schools regarding your placement.
