Direct Admit Scholars Program

The Direct Admit Scholars Program at Indiana University Bloomington offers direct admission to a small number of highly qualified incoming freshmen who demonstrate a strong academic background and a sincere commitment to teaching. It is only open to incoming freshmen for each fall semester. The Direct Admit Scholars Program is highly selective.

This program provides promising future teachers with the best possible experience at one of the nation’s finest education schools. High-performing incoming freshmen may be invited to apply to the Direct Admit Scholars Program based on information acquired through the IU application.

These students are presented a variety of opportunities which include but are not limited to:

  • Academic advising from School of Education advisors during summer orientation and throughout the academic year
  • Guaranteed admission into the program of choice within the School of Education, provided minimum requirements are met
  • Guaranteed enrollment in certain courses
  • Opportunities to meet with local School of Education alumni currently teaching in the field
  • Invitations to special events at the School of Education and meetings and events designed specifically for Direct Admit Scholars
  • Consideration for School of Education scholarships, including the opportunity to receive a stipend to student teach through one of our Cultural Immersion programs

To automatically be invited to apply to the Direct Admit Scholars program, students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Apply and be admitted to IUB, and indicate education as your intended major
  • Demonstrate a minimum SAT score of 1160 (critical reading and math) or minimum ACT score of 26
  • Demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.60 on a 4.0 scale (this can be a weighted GPA)

Students who do not meet the above requirements but who are interested in the program can request to apply to the program by contacting Katie Paulin (kpaulin@indiana.edu) beginning in October of the senior year, only after being admitted to IU.

Timeline

  • Beginning in October, students who meet the above requirements will automatically be sent information encouraging them to apply to the Direct Admit Scholars Program
  • Direct Admit Scholars applications should be submitted on or before January 15 for maximum consideration
  • Decisions regarding direct admission will be mailed on or before March 1

If you have questions concerning the Direct Admit Scholars program at the School of Education, please contact Katie Paulin.
