Phoebe Khasiala Wakhungu
Kenya
Ph.D. Student in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies

Hello! My name is Phoebe Khasiala Wakhungu from Kenya, Eastern Africa. I am married with two teenagers (a boy and a girl). I joined the PhD program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the fall of 2004. I have a master’s degree in Finance and Policy Analysis from School of Public and Environmental Affairs from Indiana University, Bloomington. I chose to pursue a PhD in educational policy because I believe that education is the key to success and improving human lives. The Policy Studies program has proved to be excellent as I had anticipated. I am studying and being mentored by seasoned and internationally renowned professors in the field of educational policy. I have worked on several research projects with them that have enabled me to learn how to conduct research in the field of education. I am so grateful that I chose to join the Policy Studies program because I feel that my career development is taking the path I had hoped it would in the program. Additionally, I have been able to meet renowned researchers from other schools and organizations through the program and this has helped me identify specific issues I would like to pursue once I finish my studies. I know how hard it can be to choose a graduate program that will meet your needs and career development. I also know that talking to someone who is already in the program is of great help when it comes to making such an important decision. If you need to talk to someone who is already in the Policy Studies program, please feel free to contact me. Feel free to ask any question about living in Bloomington. Bloomington is a wonderful place for raising children.
