A doctoral student in Education Policy Studies at the IU School of Education is among 18 named as fellows to the second Summer Program in Sustainability conducted by the Indiana University Sustainability Task Force. Joshua Hunter will work on the Education and Outreach project as part of the program.

According to a news release from IU University Communications, students will work under the mentorship of IU faculty and staff on a “broad array of academic and operational issues related to sustainability.” All issues relate to improving sustainability on the IU Bloomington campus.

Hunter has a master’s in Environmental Policy from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of environmental education, working in a variety of areas from outdoor adventure education and natural history interpretation to school-based environmental education. His dissertation is an exploration of sense of place and its role in environmental education and sustainability.

“The program recognizes the great potential that lies in integrating different entities within IU for the common purpose of addressing sustainability in a manner that is holistic, responsible, and far-sighted,” Hunter said in the news release. “This kind of collaborative effort will help students to develop the ability to critically address issues to ensure a sustainable future, and it will help the university as a whole to become a better steward of resources. This way IU will also be better equipped to compete with other universities across the country by becoming a leader in sustainability.”
