A note about Independent Study (L590)
The L590 Independent Study is usually for students in the Master's degree program who have taken a course from a particular professor with whom the student can negotiate a project. Typically the project is an extension of an idea that began in a previous course.
The official School of Education description is as follows:
"Individual research or study with a Literacy, Culture, and Language Education faculty member, arranged in advance of registration. A one- or two-page written proposal should be submitted to the instructor during the first week of the term specifying the scope of the project, project activities, meeting times, completion date, and student products. Ordinarily, L590 should not be used for the study of material taught in a regularly scheduled course."
