EFL/ESL Program via Distance Education (EPDE)
The Department of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education at Indiana University (IU) is offering two professional development certificate programs for EFL and ESL teachers and teacher trainers via distance education. The certificates are the EFL/ESL certificate for teachers (available starting fall 2009) and the other is the EFL/ESL certificate for teacher trainers (Fall 2010). Each certificate program is comprised of four courses. For more information about each certificate's required courses, please go to the following URLs:

For general information about the EFL/ESL program via Distance Education (EPDE), please go to the EPDE website.
Benefits:
- Participants will earn up to 12 graduate credits from four IU courses without having to leave their home institutions or workplace.
- Although a separate application is needed for the Masters degree, all EPDE courses (12 credit hours) are aligned with the requirements of the degree, and can be transferred as part of the course work necessary for a Masters in Literacy, Culture and Language Education (36 graduate credits)
- If participants are pre-service or in-service Indiana teachers, three of the courses (L540, L539 and L525) will count toward an add-on ESL teaching license in Indiana (for 18-24 hours total). A separate application, further advising, and careful selection of courses under the guidance of Ms. Jeane Novotny (jnovotny@indiana.edu) will be necessary for matters related to ESL licensing in Indiana.
Participants can submit applications to participate in the EPDE program at any time during the year as classes are offered online throughout the year. For more information about application procedures, please click How to Apply.
