The Diffusion Simulation Game Grows in Popularity
 |
Since 1976, IST students at Indiana University have experienced the Diffusion Simulation Game—the game for learning how to successfully diffuse an innovation. Many remember the original board version developed by Dr. Michael Molenda and Patricia Young. |
However, current students and recent graduates are more familiar with the online version developed in 2002 under the guidance of Dr. Theodore Frick. Until recently, the online version of the Diffusion Simulation Game, or DSG, was used primarily by our IST community and by almost 300 non-IU users who have purchased licenses. However, the demand from outside of the IST department for access to the DSG could not be ignored. In 2007, a free limited-version was released. While the licensed version has been played by over 3,500 Indiana University students, faculty and staff, the free version has been played over 12,000 times largely by people not affiliated with Indiana University.
Still, the full success of the DSG has yet to be realized. A new and improved version is now being developed by Dr. Frick’s Sim Ed research group. Though still under development, you can try out Version 2.0 of the DSG now. Enjoy!
