New reports indicate consistency, orientation have benefits for Ivy Tech students

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Two new policy briefs from the Indiana Project on Academic Success (IPAS) find students who transfer from Ivy Tech Community College to public 4-year institutions in Indiana are more likely to do so within their first three years of study than if they carry studies further, and find evidence that orientation is helpful for new Ivy Tech students.

Professor emeritus, former School of Education dean to speak in China

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- University Dean Emeritus of the IU School of Education Donald Warren will speak at four Chinese universities during a two-week trip that will take him and his wife Beverly across the country.
Appearing at the invitation of Chinese educators, Warren will discuss American higher education at Peking University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) in Beijing, as well as at Yunnan Nationalities University in Kunming, and Nanchang Hangkong University in Jiangxi Province.

Six grad schools at IU ranked as Top 20 by 'U.S. News,' including three in the Top 10

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- U.S. News and World Report magazine has chosen three programs at Indiana University -- including its School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) -- as top 10 among their peers. Three others, including its School of Education and Kelley School of Business, are among the magazine's top 20.
The IU School of Education remains firmly a part of the top 20; it was ranked 19th (down from 17th). It also had five specialty programs in the top 10 -- the same as last year. Based on data from 242 programs that responded to the magazine, the school was ranked sixth in higher education administration, seventh in elementary education, ninth in curriculum and instruction, and counseling and personnel services, and 10th in administration and supervision.

National impact of IU School of Education professor George Kuh recognized

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) will present to George Kuh, Chancellor's Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the Indiana University School of Education, its 2008 Outstanding Contribution to Higher Education award. Kuh's award will be presented in March at NASPA's annual meeting in Boston.

IU School of Education researchers to examine success of 21st Century Scholars program

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Researchers from the Indiana University School of Education will begin work on a study at the first of the year to determine the success of the state of Indiana's program to help low-income families send children to college. The study of the 21st Century Scholars (TFCS) program is funded by the Spencer Foundation, a Chicago-based organization which provides grants for education research. The research grant is for a $497,000 study to be conducted over two years.

Second language learners are a first priority issue

Kenyan education professors visiting IU School of Education at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two professors from the Moi University School of Education are in Indiana to learn how to improve teacher training in Kenya.
The IU School of Education at IUPUI is working on a continuing relationship with the school of education at Moi University, located in Eldoret, Kenya, a city in the western portion of the country, about 192 miles northwest of Nairobi. The IU School of Education is enhancing a longstanding IU partnership with the African nation. The IU School of Medicine joined forces for health care in 1989, primarily focusing on fighting the AIDS pandemic.
