Dean’s Advisory Council
Officer Positions
President
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly council meetings
- Coordinate bi-monthly executive officer meetings
- Effectively organize special events and delegate responsibilities
- Maintain communication with Dean's Office and Office of Teacher Education
- Represent the Dean’s Advisory Council to faculty and staff
Vice President
- Co-facilitate weekly council meetings
- Maintain communication with committee heads
- Maintain communication with other school of education organizations
- Direct all philanthropy efforts
Secretary
- Record weekly council member attendance
- Record Minutes and submit to Council via email the day after the meeting
- Update corrections or changes to Weekly Minutes
- Review and update policies and procedures every year
- Maintain email correspondence with educdac@indiana.edu.
- Revise and update website
Treasurer
- Chair annual budget review
- Record finances
- Aprove and purchase supplies, food, etc.
- Plan fund raisers (if needed)
- Tri-monthly, or as needed, report to the council-at-large the status of the budget
Historian
- Record, reflect, and post information of DAC events
- Itemize and Organize the DAC Legacy Binder
- Review Weekly Minutes and catalog in Legacy Binder
Webmaster
- Maintain communication with the SOE technology coordinators
- Revise and update DAC webpage
- Present webpage updates to council
- Encourage website visitation by advertising the website in various events.
Council At Large
- Attend weekly council meetings. Attendance of 80% is mandatory for voting members.
- Voice questions or concerns from the undergraduate body at weekly meetings
- Actively participate in various committees on the council.
- Maintain communication with executive officers
Representative Positions
Committee on Teacher Education Representative
*This committee is composed of faculty, grads and undergrads at in the
SoE at IU, as well as faculty members from other departments, and
representatives from the K-12 schools. This policy committee meets
once a month from 4-6 PM and reports on various programs being
being implemented in our schools.
Grievance Committee Representative
*This committee only meets when necessary. If a student has a
“grievance” (problem with a grade, prof., etc), and cannot resolve
his/her problem at the lower level, the student can approach the
Grievance Committee. This unit serves as a mini-trial.
Policy Council Representative
*This council is the top committee in the SoE. They deal with program
and policy changes within the School, in relation to courses and
faculty members (adding a course, changing course requirements,
the manners in which faculty members are promoted, etc). These
meetings are formal and occur one Wednesday a month, from 1-3
in the afternoon.
Committee on Teaching Representative
*This committee consists of faculty, grads and undergrads in the SoE.
They organize such projects as the Celebration of Teaching, as well
as workshops for AIs and faculty members. In general, this committee
promotes good teaching.
Sub-Committees in the DAC
Media Committee
o Involved in developing effective advertising and promoting the DAC and all of its events.
o Lead yearly recruitment effort
Communications Committee
o Responsible for developing undergraduate surveys.
o Responsible for maintaining the DAC display case in the SoE atrium.
o Responsible for heading efforts to improve communication with undergraduates.
Philanthropy Committee
o Responsible for maintaining communication with Big Brother/Big Sister.
o Responsible for the planning of monthly “First Friends” events
o Responsible for presenting other community service projects to the council.
